Dump truck nearly knocks hatchback into intersection in WA

Newly released traffic cam footage shot in Perth's west in November shows a dump truck nearly ploughing into a hatchback at a busy intersection.

The silver car slows down and stops at an orange light at the corner of the Roe Highway and Kalamunda Road in High Wycombe on November 24 last year.

But a truck barrelling through behind it can't stop in time, dramatically swerving and fishtailing into the other lane.

Miraculously, the hatchback is untouched as the truck keeps going through the red light.

Fortunately, the drivers with right-of-way were paying closer attention to the road in front of them, and a collision in the middle of the intersection was averted.

WA Police posted the previously unseen video on Twitter yesterday afternoon.

"Driver spoken to and dealt with. Amber traffic lights also mean CAUTION," the tweet read.

The truckie was slapped with some hefty demerit points for running a red light and failing to keep a safe distance behind a vehicle, a police spokesman told nine.com.au.
