Delay fears after WA hospital boss quits

The departure of the head of the new Perth Children's Hospital won't cause further delays in completing the $1.2 billion project, the WA Premier says.

Tina Chinery has resigned as the executive director of commissioning, a position she has held since November 2014, to take a new job in Queensland.

The hospital was originally due to open last year.

The opposition says it shows the Liberal state government can't keep senior public servants, who are "jumping ship", given Main Roads is losing both managing director Steve Troughton and commissioner Reece Waldock, who is also the head of the Department of Transport.

Liberal leader Colin Barnett said while Ms Chinery's departure might be bad timing, it would not cause any delays and he hoped the hospital would be completed later this year.

Hand-over was originally due in late 2015 but building contractor John Holland fell behind schedule, and has this year had to replace 935 door frames that may not comply with Australian fire standards and 450m of faulty water pipes.

Opposition Leader Mark McGowan said Ms Chinery's resignation was a "bad omen" for the hospital.
