Western Australia records 1027 new COVID-19 cases as every household to be given free rapid antigen tests

Every household in Western Australia will be given access to five free rapid antigen tests as the state records more than 1000 new daily cases of COVID-19.

Premier Mark McGowan said on Sunday that WA had recorded 1027 new cases of COVID-19, 1021 of whom were the result of local transmission.

The state's total number of active cases now sits at 4713.

Mr McGowan said one of the positive cases detected overnight was his own chief of staff, and as a result he is currently monitoring for symptoms but does not have to isolate.

Free RATS for every household

More than 5.3 million rapid antigen tests (RATS) will be made available to West Australian households from today.

Each household will be eligible to five free RATs, which can be delivered to houses or picked up from a designated collection point.

Households will be required to register online to have the tests delivered to their address, which could take up to 15 business days.

"Western Australia's approach has meant we are in the strongest possible position to manage the wave of Omicron before us," Mr McGowan said.

"Making sure every WA household has access to free RATs is an important part of being prepared for COVID-19.

"Every Western Australian deserves to have access to a rapid test, no matter who they are and no matter where they live across WA."

People who cannot register online or need assistance can contact 13 COVID (13 26843) to place their order. To register, people are required to provide their name, contact number, email and home address.

Collection for registered orders will be open from tomorrow (Monday 28 February) at the Perth Airport collection point.
