Volcanic ash cloud causes travel chaos

A VOLCANIC ASH CLOUD HOVERING OVER BALI IS CAUSING MAJOR DISRUPTIONS FOR AIRLINES AND PASSENGERS.

- Mt Raung erupted on July 2. The volcano is about 150km to the west of Denpasar airport in East Java, Bali's main airport.

- Denpasar airport has been closed along with regional airports including Lombok International Airport, Ngurah Rai International Airport, Belimbingsari Airport, Notohadinegoro Airport

WHAT THE AIRLINES ARE DOING:

VIRGIN AUSTRALIA

- Cancelled all flights from Australia to Denpasar for Saturday July 11 and will provide update at 3pm AEST

- Additional flights will be scheduled between Australia and Denpasar once conditions improve

- Travellers impacted can change bookings to another date or destination within 14 days without fee or receive a full travel credit by ringing 13 67 89 (from Australia), 00 1803 061 2002 (from Indonesia) or +61 7 3295 2296 from other international locations.

JETSTAR

- Cancelled all flights scheduled to fly in and out of Bali on Friday.

- Plans to schedule additional flights to and from Bali subject to flying conditions

- Contact Jetstar within 14 days of original flight date to re-book travel on an alternative flight

- Flights within 14 days of original date will be free

- Flights after 14 days of intended travel date will have change fee waived but fare difference must be paid

- Or request a refund in Jetstar travel vouchers to the value of the fare purchased on the original affected flight. Travel vouchers can be used within six months to book future travel

- Cancelled flights to and from Bali, Banyuwangi, Jember, and Lombok

- 112 Garuda Indonesia flights cancelled

AIRASIA

- Flight cancellations from and to Bali as well as Lombok

- Travellers can change flights on the same route within 7 days from the original date of departure without additional fees

- Alternatively, they can apply for credit equivalent to the value of the confirmed booking to be used for payment of any AirAsia tickets. Credit shell is valid for 3 months (90 days) from the date of issue.
