Driver remains on the run after gun thrown from stolen car crash

A firearm has been ejected from the scene of a car crash in Sydney’s west overnight.

Shortly after 3am this morning emergency services were called to Woodville Road, Villawood following reports a car and a truck had crashed.

When police arrived at the scene a white Volkswagen Passat, which had been reported as stolen on Tuesday November 27, had crashed into a Hino truck travelling east on the Hume Highway.

A firearm had been thrown from the car during the crash and was located on the roadway by police.

The occupants of the Volkswagen fled the scene of the crash.

The driver of the Hino truck, a 48-year-old man, was uninjured and assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene.

A manhunt is now under way for the occupants of the stolen vehicle, who were unable to be located in the surrounding area following the crash.

Police are now appealing to the public for anybody who witnessed the crash, or have dash-cam footage of the incident, to come forward and help with the investigations.
