Election night on 9News always brings with it some weird and wonderful ways to illustrate politicians losing their seats.

There have been shark pools, crushers, and even a robot.

For this election, 9News has chosen to use the 'Hallowed Turf' to mark politicians' success - or lack of - on election night.

Politicians who reclaim their seat will be kicked through the goalposts on the Hallowed Turf, while a footy boot will kick out those who voters have decided to boot.

LIVE UPDATES: 2022 Victorian Election

9News has unveiled a new election gimmick 'Hallowed Turf' for the Victorian Election. Nine

9News' Tony Jones went for a spin on the turf ahead of the election results.

Here's a look at 9News' previous election gimmicks for Victorian and Federal elections.

Ticket to Cuba

9News' 2022 Federal election coverage gimmick was a ukulele strumming robot that played to the tune of April Sun in Cuba by 1970s rock band Dragon before whacking a picture of the MP off to Cuba.

It was inspired by former Prime Minister Scott Morrison's impromptu ukulele performance at Kirribilli House, where he serenaded Karl Stefanovic for a 60 Minutes story.

Bish Boot

The 2019 Federal Election coverage gimmick was the Bish Boot, modelled off a striking pair of red stilettos Julie Bishop wore when she resigned from her position in Cabinet.

"It is my functional work boot," Ms Bishop said of the now-iconic heels.
