Cold front blasts Victoria, damaging buildings and forcing trees onto cars

One woman was injured as an icy blast hit Victoria today, as destructive winds played havoc on the roads, damaged buildings and forced trees on cars.

Emergency services were stretched, with over 1400 calls for help across the state.

Daniel Reader from the SES said "two-thirds of the calls (were) for trees down."

"We do remind people to please be careful out there on the roads and be aware of what's going on around and above you," he said.

In Tasmania where winds have battered the state for days, a woman was killed by a falling tree.

The 63-year-old was clearing trees with her husband outside their Launceston house when she became trapped.

Then in the hour after the front rolled in from Geelong to the city at 2pm, the temperature dropped from 20 to 10 degrees.
