'It's a greens-slide': Greens Leader takes victory of key inner-Melbourne seats

The Victorian Greens are a "force to be reckoned with" leaders claim, after the party claimed some key inner-Melbourne seats.

Party leader Samantha Ratnam labelled the move as a "greens-slide" after retaining the seats of Brunswick, Melbourne and Prahran and claiming Richmond and Prahran.

Meanwhile, it's still too close to call Northcote, and the party have come up just short in the seat of Footscray, which is held by incumbent Labor MP Katie Hall.

There were ecstatic scenes at the campaign headquarters, with the Greens Leader saying that the party was "on track to colour in the map of inner-city Melbourne green".

"Well, tonight, my friends, I'm so proud to be up here to tell you all that the greenslide continues tonight in Victoria," Ratnam said last night.

"Melbourne is green, Prahran is green, Brunswick is green and now Richmond is green. Our statewide vote means we have also won Southern Metro back.

"These are seats Labor has taken for granted for far too long. No matter how many seats we end up with tonight, this is a greenslide.

"And there is no doubt that the people of Victoria have voted for our vision of no new coal and gas, tackling the housing crisis, and restoring integrity back into politics."

There was also major movement in the seat of Pascoe Vale, while the seat was retained by Labor MP Anthony Cianflone, it was nearly taken by Greens candidate Angelica Panopoulos.
