Protester in custody after scaling Parliament House

A wildlife protester has been arrested after scaling the roof of Parliament House in Melbourne’s CBD.

The man, dressed in high-vis, suspended himself above the building's front steps, holding a sign reading "Don't Fark the Kuark".

Police and other demonstrators gathered at the steps of parliament on Spring Street.

A Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) crane was used to pluck the man from the building about 11am.

He is now in police custody.

A number of those involved in the rally, including a person in an owl costume, toted signs protesting to save the old growth mountain forest in Gippsland. 

A wheelie bin full of wood chips was also dumped on the footpath.

Three people were also arrested after trying to get onto the roof, but have been released without charge, 3AW reports.

The group told AAP they want the Victorian government to introduce more parks and reserves to protect wildlife, and create jobs in the environment sector.

"Under the Andrews Labor government they have been logging native forests unlawfully and they're pushing some Victoria's iconic endangered species to extinction," Whistleblowers, Activists and Citizens Alliance spokeswoman Zianna Fuad said.
