Victorian man found dead in Chicago

The family of a Victorian man who died while holidaying in the United States are waiting to hear what happened to their "much beloved son and brother".

Haimish Mawson died on Sunday in Chicago, the 21-year-old's stepfather Darryl Remnant posted on Facebook.

"Our much beloved son and brother, Haimish Mawson, has died this morning while on holiday in LA and Chicago in the USA," Mr Remnant posted on Sunday night.

"While we don't know the full story yet, we have been in contact with the Medical Examiner in Chicago, and will post an update regarding when we can go collect Haimish and bring him home, and funeral arrangements."

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian man who died in Chicago, but could not comment further due to privacy issues.
