Victorian city soaked by a year's worth of rain as flash flooding lashes state
Residents in north-west Victoria have been soaked by a bout of flash flooding as heavy rain across the state brought a wet end to the summer months.
Mildura was lashed with almost 150mm of rainfall in the 36-hour period until 9am today, flooding a major highway and triggering a barrage of calls for help to the State Emergency Service.
Streets turned into swamps as the wet weather, described as "tropical weather" by the Bureau of Meteorology, dumped almost a year's worth of rain across the area in just a few days.

Carparks, paddocks, backyards and classrooms were inundated with the flash flooding in Mildura.
The SES Mildura Unit has fielded more than 120 requests for assistance in the past 24 hours as the sudden deluge washed over the regional city.
"For Mildura, that 150mm in two days is almost all of last year's rainfall," BoM meteorologist Daniel Sherwin-Simpson said.
"Across the entirety of 2025, Mildura got 159.7mm, so they've picked up pretty much all of last year's rainfall in two days."
Heavy rainfall is expected to continue moving eastwards today, impacting parts of northern and north-eastern Victoria, as well as and southern and south-eastern NSW.
Rainfall observations of 30mm to 50mm are likely, with a possibility of 100mm in some parts, the Bureau of Meteorology said.

A severe weather warning has also been issues for large parts of Victoria's north, including Wodonga, Wangaratta, Shepparton and Echuca.
The SES said a tropical humidity is persisting to the east of a low in the far north-west near the NSW border, resulting in a broad rainband with isolated thunderstorm activity.
"A trough is moving through the state today with rainfall clearing from the west in its wake," it said in a statement.
Several flood watches and minor flood warnings are in place for parts of western NSW and Victoria.
This includes Echuca, Tongala and Kyabram.

Minor flooding is possible along the Avoca River, according to Vic Emergency.
The rain is expected to ease tonight and will clear for residents in the south-east, including Melbourne.
Sunniers skies are expected in the Victoria capital from Thursday onwards.
However, showers and thunderstorms are forecast to linger in northern and eastern NSW and eastern Victoria.
