VicForests halts logging in East Gippsland

State-owned timber company VicForests has suspended logging in forests in Victoria's east following negotiations with lawyers for an environmental action group.

VicForests has on Thursday agreed to survey for rare wildlife and plants in areas of East Gippsland forests that were slated for logging, Environmental Justice Australia says.

"We welcome this belated action by VicForests," EJA spokeswoman Felicity Millner said in a statement.
