Autopsy on Vic toddler given to detectives

Police have received the autopsy results of a Victorian toddler whose death in Mildura is being treated as suspicious.

The two-year-old's body was found inside the Mildura home on Tuesday evening, several hours after she was reported missing and the local community had turned out to help search.

Police won't confirm reports that Nikki Francis-Coslovich's body was found inside the roof cavity of the Oram Court home.

An autopsy has been completed and homicide detectives are reviewing the results, Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton says.

Mr Ashton would not rule laying charges in relation to Nikki's death.

"It's a very tragic case, one that we do view as suspicious," he told reporters on Thursday.

"We expect to be taking some actions once we've done the proper analysis of the results of the autopsy."

Nikki's father, Nick Coslovich, told AAP he separated from his partner in February, and had not seen Nikki or their three older children - all girls - for about a month.

Mr Coslovich was interviewed by police on Tuesday night, and told them he had been trying to renegotiate care arrangements for the girls.

He said there was no history of violence in the home, though their mother had recently met a new boyfriend.
