Victoria has retained its stable Moody's triple-A credit rating.

Moody's Investor Services agency confirmed the rating on Thursday noting that the rating reflects the state's sound financial performance and diverse economic base.

Treasurer Tim Pallas said the stable rating was confirmation of Moody's confidence in the state.

"The former Labor government secured Victoria's triple-A credit rating and the Andrews Labor Government will work day and night to retain it," he said.

Victoria and NSW are the only two Australian states with the Moody's triple-A rating.
