Suspicious fire at Melbourne apartments

About 40 people have been evacuated from a Melbourne apartment block after a fire broke out in the basement.

Fire crews were called to the Brunswick apartment block on Tuesday morning and found a fire in a storage unit in the basement.

The fire caused smoke to fill five levels of the block and crews are using fans to clear it before residents can return inside.

The fire is being treated as suspicious.
