Vic man on mend after bushwalk drama

An elderly bushwalker who was lost for two nights in remote bushland in Victoria's northeast says he's fit and well after his ordeal.

A police Airwing pilot spotted the 73-year-old man sitting on a rock in the Burrowa-Pine Mountain National Park shortly before 9am on Tuesday.

He became lost after setting out for a bushwalk on Sunday morning.

He was winched to safety and taken to Corryong Hospital suffering from dehydration but will be discharged on Tuesday afternoon.

A hospital spokeswoman told AAP she had spoken to the man who described himself as "fit and well".

The man left a note with his neighbour at 7am on Sunday, saying he was going walking in the national park near his home in Guys Forest, a small community between Wodonga and Corryong in Victoria's high country.

Police and Parks Victoria rangers began a search for the man on Monday morning when his neighbours raised the alarm.
