Prohibited weapons seized in Melbourne

Stun devices, knuckle dusters and other illegal weapons have been intercepted by customs officials in a raid on an outer Melbourne home.

A total of 30 prohibited weapons in 11 packages have been intercepted since March and authorities on Wednesday raided the Hallam property to which the packages were addressed.

Customs has warned prohibited weapons importers can be fined $425,000 and jailed for 10 years.

"These weapons are not toys and could potentially be dangerous in the wrong hands," says David Nockels, national manager of Customs Enforcement Branch.

A Hallam man is being questioned.

PROHIBITED WEAPONS SEIZED:

- electric shock devices

- anti-personnel sprays

- knuckle dusters

- automatic knives

- trench knives.
