Police probe into regional Vic bushfires

A grassfire which destroyed buildings and vehicles and continues to burn in regional Victoria is under police investigation just days after it sparked an emergency.

Crime investigators and arson squad detectives confirmed on Wednesday they are probing the Bunkers Hill fire, in Ballarat, which started on Friday and spread over 150 hectares, at times prompting an alert for nearby residents that it was too late to safely leave their homes.

Another two fires in nearby Mount Mercer and Learmonth are not being treated as suspicious and are not linked to the fire in Bunkers Hill, police said on Wednesday.
