Mike Brady named Victorian of the Year

Up There Cazaly songwriter Mike Brady has been named Victorian of the Year in a ceremony in Melbourne.

Brady AM is most recognised for his chart-topping AFL anthem and the advertising jingle Lucky You're With AAMI.

Homelessness advocate and medical student Robert Gillies won this year's Young Victorian honour.

The awards were revealed at a Victoria Day Council event at the Melbourne Town Hall on Monday.

Victoria Day marks the official separation of Victoria from NSW and the proclamation of independence was re-enacted ahead of the awards being announced.

Last year, Australia's Chief Scientist Alan Finkel took the top honour.
