Melbourne to ring in New Year with city's largest firework show

Melbourne is set to explode into the New Year with the city's largest firework show ever.

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle has announced details of the glittering $3 million fireworks display that will be visible from anywhere with a view of the city skyline.

"The city will sparkle as 13.5 tonnes of fireworks, a third more than last year, are fired from 22 rooftops across the city, making it the biggest fireworks show that Melbourne has ever seen," Mr Doyle said in a statement today.

There will also be a 9.30pm show scheduled for families at Yarra Park.
