Valuable parrot recovered by Vic police

A valuable parrot that was stolen from a Melbourne pet store has been found safe and well.

A thief took only the parrot after breaking the front glass door of an Airport West pet store sometime on Wednesday night.

Police released a photograph of the missing parrot on Friday afternoon and hours later the bird was recovered.

"Sunny the sun conure parrot has been found safe and well in St Kilda a short time ago," Victoria Police said in a statement.

"Police are currently speaking with a 37-year-old Moonee Ponds man who had the bird in his possession."

Sun Conure parrots can fetch several hundreds of dollars when sold online.

Police thanked the public, and media, for helping to track down the missing bright yellow and orange bird.
