A woman has died after she was involved in an alleged hit-run collision in Melbourne's south-west.

The 53-year-old woman was rushed to hospital after the two car-crash on Dunnings Road in Point Cook about 11pm on Friday.

Victoria Police were told a purple Holden Commodore was travelling west when it allegedly ran a red light at the Broadwalk Boulevard intersection and crashed into a grey Volkswagen Golf travelling south.

The woman was driving the Volkswagen, which allegedly flipped and rolled through a traffic light, a sign pole and into a tree, leaving her in a critical condition.

The Point Cook woman was rushed to hospital, but died yesterday.

The 25-year-old man who was driving the Holden allegedly ran from the scene of the crash, while his passenger stayed behind.

He was arrested at a property shortly after the crash.

He has been charged with negligently causing serious injury, failing to stop and render assistance and other traffic offences.

Investigations are on going, with police asking that anyone who was travelling along Dunnings Road prior to the collision and may have seen the purple Holden Commodore to contact them.
