Melbourne teen charged over home invasions

A Melbourne teen has been charged over a series of aggravated burglaries where residents were left terrified and cars stolen.

It is alleged the Burnside Heights boy, 15, was part of a group who smashed through bi-fold doors into an Airport West home on July 6.

A couple in the home locked themselves in an ensuite after hearing glass smash and had their grey Volkswagen, a purse and valuable watches stolen.

It will be further alleged the teen was one of three males who then went to an Essendon North home on the same day and used a large rock to smash their way in.

Four family members woke to find three males standing in their living room and threw keys to a Holden and a Jeep - but only the 2015 Holden Club Sport Anniversary model was taken.

The boy is also accused of being involved in a break-in at a Plumpton home, where a 2014 Holden HSV was stolen on July 2.

He has been charged with aggravated burglary, vehicle theft and theft, and remanded in custody to appear in a children's court at a later date.

Investigations are continuing.

The arrest was made under Operation Cosmas, set up in May in response to aggravated burglaries and car thefts across Victoria.

More than 75 arrests have been made since the operation started.
