MCG may boot AFL grand final day tradition

One of Melbourne's great annual sporting traditions is "highly likely" to be given the boot amid the threat of terrorism.

Public parking and the time-honoured MCG car boot barbecue face the chop on AFL grand final day in September, venue spokesman Gerard Griffin confirmed on Wednesday.

"It's not a done deal but it's highly likely. It's (due to) a combination of security, safety and logistics - naturally the security element will get the most focus," Mr Griffin told 3AW.
