Man uses hammer at Vic police station

Police have been forced to pepper spray a man who allegedly tried to smash into a Victorian police station with a hammer.

The 46-year-old man allegedly started the rampage about 8.30am on Sunday, driving a vehicle through a gate and into a parked car at Corio police station.

Police say he then used a hammer to try to enter the station, hitting a glass door.

The Lara man was not able to get inside but refused to put the hammer down.

Officers used OC spray and the man was arrested.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said he was taken to Geelong Hospital with a head injury and was in a serious but stable condition.

He has not yet been interviewed.
