Man charged after alleged stabbing death in Melbourne's west

A man has been charged with murder after another man was allegedly stabbed to death at a home in Melbourne’s west.

Emergency services arrived at the scene on Essex Street in Sunshine North at about 9pm yesterday finding a man with wounds to his upper body.

People at the scene had attempted CPR on the victim, believed to be in his 30s, before paramedics arrived but he could not be revived.

The street was cordoned off overnight while detectives investigated and the dog squad were called in to help the search for the offender and the weapon involved.

A 36-year-old Sunshine North man has been charged with one count of murder and will face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

The deceased man is yet to be formally identified.

The incident is believed to be the fourth murder in Melbourne in the past week.

A 30-year-old Werribee man was allegedly stabbed to death at a home on Myrtle Street last Sunday, with Daniel Parry, 36, charged over his death.

Also on Sunday, the body of Darren John Webb, 40, was found at Southbank’s luxurious Crown Metropol Hotel.

His throat had allegedly been cut. Elias Herodotou, 28, was arrested and charged with murder on Saturday after a week-long manhunt.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old man from Preston was also charged with murder after Donato Galgano, 68, was allegedly killed at the intersection of Murray and Gilbert roads on Friday afternoon.

Tony Papadimitriou was arrested at the scene and was refused bail in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday morning.
