Man sinking in mud near Geelong rescued

A man who was knee-deep and sinking further into a muddy lake near Geelong has been rescued.

Rescuers needed to lay wooden planks to reach the man who became trapped while walking in the muddy surrounds of Lake Connewarre at about 11am on Tuesday.

Scott Clark from South Barwon SES said access was the main issue in the rescue.

More than a dozen SES and CFA members lay wooden planks out to and around the man before lifting him out of the mud.

"It's quite lucky because, as he told us, the more he moved, the more he sank down," Mr Clark told AAP.

The man was later cleared by paramedics.
