Man punches cop at F1 Grand Prix

A man has been arrested at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix in Melbourne for punching a female police officer.

It's alleged the 51-year-old from Point Cook punched the officer in the head as he and another man were being escorted from the event by security guards about 5pm on Sunday.

Police had approached the pair after they refused to "relinquish their beers before leaving", a Victoria Police spokesman told AAP.

The accused man was being questioned about the incident.
