Man on sex charges linked to Vic school

An elderly man has been charged over sexual offences at a Victorian Catholic school more than 25 years ago.

The 86-year-old Maffra man has been charged with four counts of indecent assault involving three male students at St Patrick's College in Sale, in the state's east, in the 1970s and 1980s.

Police say they are unable to confirm if the man was a priest or a teacher at the school.

The charges were laid by detectives from the Sano taskforce, formed to investigate allegations raised by the Victorian parliamentary inquiry into child sexual abuse in religious and non-government organisations.

The man was charged on summons and will appear in the Sale Magistrates Court on March 15.
