Man found dead inside mental health facility, patient under police guard

A man is under police guard after a patient died in an acute mental health ward in a Geelong hospital in Victoria overnight.
Emergency services were called to the Swanston Centre at University Hospital Geelong around 2am.
Police officers found a man dead inside a room at the facility.

He is yet to be formally identified.
Another man, also a patient at the hospital, is under police guard.
The homicide squad is investigating, police said.
"There was an unexpected death of an inpatient in the acute mental health ward (Swanston Centre) overnight," Barwon Health chief medical officer Affiliate Professor Ajai Verma confirmed.
"The matter was referred to police, who are investigating.
"We extend our condolences to the family of the deceased patient.
"Support has been extended to staff."
The two men were known to each other, police say.
The coroner has been notified.
