Man arrested after Vic police standoff

Two children allegedly held hostage in a Geelong home for about 14 hours have been released.

Police were called to a Newcomb home about 11.30pm on Saturday after an argument between a man and a woman.

The woman left the home while officers tried to persuade the man to come out.

He finally surrendered about 1.10pm on Sunday and was arrested.

Police said it was not yet clear whether the man was armed.

The children were uninjured.
