Human remains found in Victorian bush

Detectives have cordoned off Victorian bushland where decomposing human remains have been found.

The remains were discovered at 12.30pm on Monday in Mt Macedon, north of Melbourne.

Homicide squad detectives and forensic teams are scouring the area.

"The remains will be taken for forensic testing to determine the identity of the deceased and the cause of death," a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

Police have not yet confirmed the gender of the remains that were reportedly discovered by a bushwalker.

But some media have reported it was the body of a woman who was "considerably decomposed".

There is no suggestion the cases are linked but the area is some 25 kilometres from where a search for missing Melbourne mum Karen Ristevski was carried out in December.

Ms Ristevski, 47, was last seen on June 29 by her husband as she was leaving their Avondale Heights home.
