Gun found, manhunt underway after thieves crash stolen BMW in Melbourne

A manhunt is underway for at least two people who fled after crashing a stolen car in Melbourne’s north overnight.

Police attempted to intercept the stolen BMW in Northcote at around 2am.

The car, with two or three occupants inside at the time, then sped down Clarke Street before losing control and crashing into a fence and three parked vehicles.  

A neighbour told 9NEWS it “sounded like a bomb had gone off”.

Police uncovered a firearm on the passenger seat during a search of the stolen car.

Forensic testing is underway and the investigation is ongoing.
