Great Ocean Road to get $53m upgrade

Victoria's fire and storm-ravaged Great Ocean Road will get a $53 million upgrade to reduce the risk of future landslides.

The 240 kilometre scenic tourist route will receive urgent repairs to improve its surface, new rock fall netting, retaining walls and stone works to prevent erosion by waves.

The Wye River region was hard hit by fires last Christmas and the degraded landscape made the road susceptible to landslides following spring storms with more than 80 landslides above the road and 40 on the ocean side during September.
