Gangland widow wants house sale stopped

Gangland widow Roberta Williams wants to stop the tax office selling a property to pay off a family debt after fallout from the Lawyer X revelations.

Ms Williams appeared in the Supreme Court on Wednesday afternoon to apply for an urgent injunction to stop the Essendon house being auctioned on Saturday.

The former wife of drug kingpin Carl Williams wants the sale halted because the involvement of Lawyer X could have serious implications on her ex-husband and his father's legal affairs.

Lawyer Carolyn Symons said her client Ms Williams had been shocked by the revelation a criminal lawyer had been informing to police about clients.

The Essendon property is due to be sold off to pay off a tax debt owed by George Williams, her ex-husband's Carl's father.

George, who died in 2016, had struck a settlement deal with the ATO to mortgage his Primrose Street house, but died with at least $740,000 still owing.

In March, the Supreme Court of Victoria determined Roberta had no claim to the house and made orders for it to be sold to cover George's liabilities.

Justice Steven Moore said he would reserve his decision until Friday.
