Former Victorian premier Dan Andrews returns to parliament for retiring MP’s speech
Former Victorian premier Dan Andrews has been seen in public for the first time in months after he returned to the Spring Street chambers for a retiring MP’s speech.
Andrews, who retired from politics himself in 2023, slipped into parliament yesterday evening to listen to Pakenham MP Emma Vulin’s emotional farewell address.

It was the first time the ex-premier has been spotted since December 2025.
He was seated near the exit in the public gallery as Vulin made her valedictory speech.
Vulin is leaving politics after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease in April 2024 and spoke using a text-to-speech tool.
She thanked Andrews and current premier Jacinta Allan during her speech.
Andrews resigned in September 2023 after a long reign as Victorian premier, which lasted almost a decade from December 2014 to September 2023 – the second-longest term in the state’s history.

His time in the top job was largely marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in several months-long lockdowns impacting Melbourne and wider Victoria.
After stepping down, Andrews said it was “highly unlikely” he would return to the public sector.
In 2024, Andrews signalled his next career move by registering two companies in his name.
He also faced scrutiny last year after visiting China and attending a military parade held by Chinese President Xi Jingping.
