Residents evacuated after explosive device found in Whittington bedroom

A 45-year-old man has been arrested after an explosive device was found in a bedroom at a property in Whittington, near Geelong.

Police executing a search warrant on a house on Coppards Road found the device shortly before 8am.

The surrounding area has been evacuated and road closures are in place between Townsend Road and the Bellarine Highway.

The Bomb Response Unit is en route to the scene.

Police say the incident is not linked to the discovery of the bodies of two men in a home in the same town.
