A mother has found her adult son and his friend dead in their home in outer Geelong.

Homicide police established a crime scene at the home in Whittington after the grisly discovery was made about 10.30am today.

The bodies were found in a rear bedroom, and both men reportedly had stab wounds to their arms and upper body.

Detective acting Senior Sergeant Sol Solomon said it was too early to know if they killed each other or if someone else killed them.

"At this point in time it's too early for us to determine whether a third party is involved," Det Sen Sgt Solomon told reporters.

Sen Sgt Solomon would not rule out a murder-suicide.

"We're keeping an open mind and there are a number of possibilities, including that one," he said.

The men were aged 23 and 30.

The 23-year-old was living in the house with the 30-year-old and his mother.

The mother returned from running errands this morning to find the bodies.
