A Kittens strip club has been peppered with gunshots in the third drive-by shooting at the Melbourne venue in six months.

A black sedan drove up to the club shortly before 3pm on Cecil Street, South Melbourne, where at least one person got out of the car and fired shots at the venue before driving off, police say.

Two windows at the front of the club were hit, as was the door.

No one was injured or in the club, but neighbouring businesses were still open at the time of the shooting.

According to Kitten's Facebook page, the club was "open as usual from 7pm" on Friday night.

It is the third time shots have been fired at the South Melbourne club since November.

In January, a security guard was shot in the face and another bouncer was wounded in November.

Kittens has two clubs, and the second in Caulfield South was firebombed in February.

Sergeant Tony Benham, from police anti-bikie operation Taskforce Echo, told media on Friday evening it was "very concerning" that the shooting occurred in mid-afternoon.

He said police were investigating if Friday's shooting was connected to the previous incidents.

It is believed a dispute over security contracts, possibly involving members of the Comanchero outlaw bikie gang, was behind the previous incidents.

A man has been charged over the explosion and remains behind bars until his next court appearance in June.

No one has been charged over the November and January shootings.
