Defamed lawyer wins $175K from The Age

A Melbourne criminal barrister has been awarded $175,000 in damages over a defamatory article in The Age newspaper.
A Supreme Court jury found the online articles in 2015 defamed Damian Sheales by suggesting he acted negligently by mis-stating facts about cobalt during a Racing Victoria stewards hearing.
On Thursday the court ordered Mr Sheales, who said he suffered injury to his professional reputation and feelings, recover $175,000 in damages from The Age.
