Teenager stabbed, stomped on in brutal Melbourne assault

A Melbourne teenager is lucky to be alive after she was stabbed multiple times, as well as stomped on and kicked in an assault that was caught on camera.
Two women, an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old, were set upon by a group of up to 10 youths, with the younger woman being thrown to the ground and beaten at a local park in Deer Park.

She was also stabbed up to six times, police said.
The assault happened at about 7.15 on Wednesday night, with police finding the woman with serious injuries.
Detective Acting Sergeant Ali Samie said she was shocked by the violent nature of the attack and found it difficult to watch the footage of the assault.
“She was kicked to the head, stomped on and stabbed repeatedly by one of the offenders, one or more of the offenders rather,” Samie said on Thursday.
“I found it very hard to watch, particularly seeing the victim be kicked to the head while she's on all fours on the ground, and then one of the offenders has jumped on her head.”

Samie said the woman was taken to hospital, and is now in a stable condition, but said she was fortunate to still be alive.
“It only takes one millimetre and, we're talking about a homicide,” Samie said. “So we're very lucky in this case we're not having that conversation.
“The victim is in hospital recovering, receiving treatment, and speaking with us. but it very easily could have been a lot more serious.”
The 20-year-old woman was also assaulted, but did not require hospitalisation.
The youths involved in the assault fled the scene.
Police are piecing together the circumstances that led to the assault, but it is believed it may have been the result of an online feud.
“I'm not quite sure how long the youths met for, it is believed that it was a planned meeting,” Samie said.

As it stands, no arrests have been made.
Police remained at the scene on Thursday, finding multiple pieces of evidence.
These included two knives, one of which was covered in blood, an empty knife packet - which would have contained six blades if full - and hair extensions on the ground.
Premier Ben Carroll told reporters on Thursday he was appalled by the attack; it happened just hours after he announced further powers for police to stop people to search them for weapons in public under Jack’s Law.
“[It’s] shocking,” he said.
“It's why I've said we need a zero tolerance approach, and we will give the police every resource they need. And that just goes to show you why Jack's Law is so important.
“I will give police the power and resources they need to stop knife crime.”
