Commuter chaos as power fault stops Victorian train

Around 160 Victorian train passengers have been stranded for three hours between stations after a power fault halted transport.

The passengers were stuck on board the V/Line service this morning from Traralgon to Melbourne after an overhead power fault closed the line ahead.

The train was stranded in Dandenong, unable to reverse due to another metropolitan train blocking the railway line.

No nearby platform delayed passengers from exiting the train.

"We are unable to de-train as the area you are in it is unsafe to do so," one frustrated passenger said in a tweet.

The train was eventually moved backwards to Hallam Station at 10am after the metropolitan train was shifted.

Passengers were transferred to four waiting buses.

V/Line trains were moved backwards after being given “special permission from Metro trains”, a V/Line spokesperson said.

It is expected the Gippsland line will be affected throughout the afternoon.

A number of train of services on the line will be replaced by buses, V/Line said.
