Cash found in donated Vic jackets

A Melbourne good Samaritan who donated four men's jackets to St Vincent De Paul forgot to take a very large sum of money out of the pockets.

Staff at the Sunshine store in Melbourne's west were sorting through collection bin donations on January 20 when they came across the cash stashed in the jackets.

Victoria Police are now trying to track down the owner of the jackets.

Sergeant Brett Butterworth said police were doing everything they could to return the money.

"I would hate to think that this money represents someone's life savings," Serg Butterworth said.

Police believe the jackets were put in a charity bin and collected on either the Friday, Saturday or Sunday before January 20.
