The occupants evacuated safely but one was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) said in an official statement.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus targeted the ground floor fire and declared it under control within 34 minutes.

The MFB believes the fire was started by unattended candles, and has warned the general public to take precautions when using them.

"When using candles ensure they are on a non-combustible surface and are well clear of any curtains or other combustible materials," it said.
