Burst water main sends water and rocks flying into air in Melbourne

A burst water main in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick East has sent water and rocks gushing into the air.

The Park Street water main burst about 1pm, seriously damaging parked cars in the area. The burst has also blocked the drains of nearby houses.

Emergency services arrived swiftly but struggled to contain the flow, with concerns the spray of water could collapse into a sinkhole.

They managed to turn the water off after more than an hour.
