Boral charged over Vic quarry dumps

Boral's Victorian arm has been charged over alleged illegal dumping of industrial waste in the state's north.

Environment Protection Authority Victoria on Wednesday charged Boral Resources (Vic) with three offences for allegedly allowing industrial waste to be left at the disused Pine Lodge/Cosgrove quarry near Shepparton without the proper licence.

It's alleged the waste was dumped between February 2007 and April 2014.

The Greater Shepparton City Council owns the site, but Boral uses it under agreement with the council.

Under the Environment Protection Act, Victorian quarry sites must hold a licence from the EPA to accept industrial waste.

The criminal charges were to be heard at the Shepparton Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Boral and the Greater Shepparton City Council declined to comment as the matter is before the court.
