A Melbourne dad who suffered a brain haemorrhage while on holiday in Bali will be heading home soon after his family scrambled to pay for his emergency transport.

Respected business consultant Raj Jayarajah, 43, collapsed on the holiday island on Friday and underwent emergency brain surgery.

He's in an induced coma and needs to be flown home to Australia.

While he has travel insurance, his friend Andrew MacQueen - who is also on holiday on the island - said the company has not yet approved the huge costs of his treatment or emergency flight home.

However, he told Today this morning that the family had been able to organise a Life Flight, which will arrive in Indonesia today.

"It has been approved, been paid for, everything's been funded by the family at this moment so that's arriving today which is great," he said.

The family will be heading back to Australia either this afternoon or tomorrow, he said.

"They're just surviving just hour by hour at the moment, just beside themselves with grief and anxiety," he said.

"Time was of the essence. If he was somewhere else on the island or stuck in traffic or snorkelling with us as we had been, I'd say he wouldn't be around," MacQueen said.

"He's a great guy, a family guy. He's just a top bloke."

An online fundraiser for the family has now raised over $178,000 of a $250,000 goal.

An update on the page claims the insurance provider has declined to support the family.
