Two men have been arrested as police investigate a drive-by shooting at a Victoria Police impound yard.

Media reports suggest the Hells Angels bikie gang could be behind Tuesday's shooting, however police say they are still working out if there are direct links between those arrested and that incident.

A Wallan man, 41, and Craigieburn man, 22, were arrested on Wednesday after police searched two businesses in Craigieburn and a Wallan house.

Two allegedly stolen vehicles were uncovered at one of the Craigieburn properties.

The Wallan man was interviewed over the allegedly stolen cars and released pending further inquiries.

The 22-year-old man was charged with offences including possessing methamphetamine and prescription drugs.

He is also charged with handling stolen goods, with police believing the car he was driving displayed allegedly stolen plates.

He was bailed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates Court on August 31.

The Preston impound yard was peppered with gunshots late Tuesday as two unsworn police employees inside sought shelter.

The Preston complex holds cars that have been impounded by police and is staffed 24-hours to receive vehicles.
