AFL grand final bet for Vic, NSW premiers

The Victorian and NSW premiers will have a bit more than state pride on the line when the AFL grand final gets under way.

Victorian Premier Denis Napthine reckons Hawthorn will beat Sydney by 10 on Saturday, and says he will get in touch with his NSW counterpart, Mike Baird, for a friendly wager.

In 2013, Dr Napthine won a bet with West Australian Premier Colin Barnett when Hawthorn defeated Fremantle.

Mr Barnett had to don the rival team's colours and spruik Victoria as a tourist destination in Perth's Hay Street Mall.

"I have great confidence in the Hawks. I think Hawthorn are a proven side under finals pressure and I'll be certainly backing the Victorian side," Dr Napthine told reporters on Sunday.

Usually a Geelong supporter, Dr Napthine said he might even adorn his car in Hawks colours.

"I might even bring myself to actually fly the Hawks flags on the car this week," he said.

Dr Napthine announced 30 extra train services and about 300 extra tram services would run in Melbourne on grand final day.
