Accused Samantha Murphy killer in hospital
The man accused of murdering missing Ballarat mother Samantha Murphy has been rushed to hospital after trying to take his own life inside prison.
Patrick Orren Stephenson attempted self-harm while being held at the Melbourne Assessment Prison, where he is currently remanded on one count of murder.

Paramedics were called to the scene before taking him to hospital under guard.
The 23-year-old was charged over the suspicious disappearance of Murphy, who vanished after going for a run in February 2024.
Stephenson has consistently maintained his innocence and previously pleaded not guilty to the charge.

While he is set to stand trial, Murphy’s family continues to search for answers. Her body has never been found.
